Granite Fabrication and a New Look For Formica
On this episode of the Village Home Show, you’ll learn about the different types of countertop materials to fit your lifestyle and taste. We’ll take you on a tour to one of our stone fabrication shops to see the customization process. Plus we show you a before and after kitchen story that includes Formica’s 180FX series with a marble counter fakeout you have to see to believe. Press play below to watch.
When comparing a laminate countertop to a solid surface countertop, they are not heat and scratch resistant. Because quartz countertops are nonporous, there is no maintenance required.
With a natural stone, there is a sealant applied to the stone because the surface is porous. Typically you shouldn’t have to reseal the stone for another 10 years, but it all depends on how much you use the countertop kits. Natural stones come in large slabs of material so you can expect seams. For customers concerned about seams, they should view the slabs and choose the best one for their kitchen design. When the fabricator comes to the customer’s home to do the template, he will look for the placement of the seam.
Fortunately, natural stone countertops can also be installed in bathrooms. One of the best choices for your bathroom is the quartz countertop due to its low maintenance factor. We also offer marble because it is easy to keep clean and care for.
The Edge Profile
The edge profile may seem like a small detail, but it’s that type of detail that gives your countertop an appealing look. There are a variety of options to choose from. However, some are limited to certain material. In the category of stone countertops, there are a number of edge profile options available such as a standard ease edge, half round edge, and more. Other interesting edge options include the rustic, chisel profile. Each category of countertop material has a number of edge options for you and your design needs.
The Granite Fabrication Process
Whenever a price is quoted for Natural Stone or Quartz countertops from our store, fabrication is included in the price. The fabrication process has always been a part of the process that remains a mystery… until now. In Episode 5 we toured the warehouse where you can select your slab of material…but what happens next? Take a trip with us to Wilton Iowa in this episode to find out.
BJ shows us around the Surface Resource facility and walks us through the whole process from receiving to installation. Learn everything from sink cutouts to how your edge profile is applied. This was a very fun and interesting day of filming.
Before and After Kitchen in Geneseo, IL
Many of our featured kitchens include rooms that have been opened up because of a wall being removed.. but not all projects are that extreme. In this kitchen remodel, we used the same space and just added new materials without removing any walls.
Bright, painted white cabinetry and classic marble countertops…….or wait? That’s Formica! Yes indeed! Formica’s 180fx series of large-format printed laminate has been installed for a great marble fakeout that is very successful.
This episode was our way of beginning the conversation about some of the many options you have for counters in your new spaces. Have more questions? We are here to help.
